THE MANOR HOUSE

In this project, a beautiful old Manor House in North Norfolk, my clients were after a truly versatile storage and studying solution for a busy family. This room will be playroom for the boys, homework station, retreat and occasional workstation for Mum and Dad. The furniture needed to accomplish all this AND swallow up all the toys, games, and craft supplies, whilst still remaining effortlessly stylish.

We began by building into a deep alcove between the chimney breast and outside wall, a large 3 door cupboard comprising fixed height and adjustable shelving as well as 4 bespoke storage boxes. The doors are styled with bold vertical planks, perfectly flat with sleek cut-out handles inspired by mid-century Scandinavian design.

Projecting out from this is a 4.5m long wall with 2 windows; perfect for a long Oak desk/worktop. Full length planks were used with cleated “bread-board” ends.

A combination of cupboards, drawers makes up the giant desk’s pedestals with panelled knee-hole spaces for sitting and working. The pedestals stand raised off the ground on strong legs, giving a sense of lightness to the run.

A pair of our SPOT STOOLS fit perfectly with the scheme, light, sturdy and infinitely practical.
