Holt – Alcove Bookcase

Simple lines – well proportioned – practical storage.

The combination of a fitted cupboard base with an open bookcase is an absolute classic solution to the conundrum of maximising storage in an awkward space.  In this case a box room study in an old Norfolk cottage.  Typical Norfolk wonky walls and sloping floors make fitted furniture particularly challenging, the goal is to make the most of the space without making the furniture feel squashed in.

Two double door base cupboards, each with an adjustable shelf, are levelled and scribed to fit the floor.  The legs sit just inside the skirting boards leaving a neat shadow gap to the walls which is neatly filled in.  The bookcase plugs solidly into pre-made slots in the worktop.  We can also seamlessly add LED lighting to the bookcase legs.

Our fitted cupboard bookcases use Oak veneered poplar ply carcasses with Tulipwood fascias, Maple doors and solid Tulipwood shelves.  We spray finish everything in the workshop for a flawless finish to any colour you like and coat the cupboard interiors with a hard wearing clear lacquer.
